Initial configuration

In this section, we will configure PeopleSync for Active Directory authentication and perform initial configuration.

Configure System Settings in PeopleSync Console

  1. Run PeopleSync Console.

  1. Log in with the user Administrator and an empty password. You will then be required to set a new password for the user Administrator.

  1. In the console, click on System Settings in the navigation window.
    Fill in the mandatory settings for hostname, Domain Name, Base DN, Public URL and Internal URL and click on the Save button.
    For Active Directory, use the following settings:

  • Hostname: the FQDN or IP Address of an Active Directory domain controller, which is also a global catalog server.

  • Internal URL: The Frontend Server’s internal URL, e.g. http://SRV-PeopleSync:88

When using SSL, the Public and Internal URLs can be set to https://<Computername>.

Please note that the Certificate must be trusted by SRV-PeopleSync.

Optional settings:

In addition to the mandatory settings listed above, it is possible to configure email alerting to notify administrators in case errors occur in PeopleSync. For email alerting, the following settings need to be configured:

  • Mail Server: The DNS name or IP address of an SMTP server.

  • SMTP Port: The SMTP server's TCP Port (e.g. 25).

  • Send Mail on Error: Send mail only when an error occurs (recommended)

  • Send Mail on Event: Send an email for every event logged to the PeopleSync database (only for debugging).

  • Send Mail on Success: Send an email every time an agent successfully runs.


Configure a PeopleSync Service Account

The PeopleSync Service Account is used by the PeopleSync Service to authenticate against the Frontend Server when loading contacts into address lists.

  1. Open the PeopleSync Console.

  1. Navigate to Address Lists|Service Accounts.

  1. Click on New.

  1. In the User Name field, click on “…” to choose the psservice user from Active Directory.

  1. Set the user’s password.

  1. Save the user.

License Key

Please copy the license keys you received into the following directory:
%ProgramFiles%\messageconcept GmbH\PeopleSync\Agent\Licensekeys

If you chose a different installation directory, please copy the license key into the Agent\Licensekeys directory in your installation folder.

Note: If you received a ZIP-file from your vendor, please unzip the file before copying the license key files (XML) to the Agent\Licensekeys directory.

Start the PeopleSync Service

As a final step, the PeopleSync Service needs to be started.

  1. In the Start Menu, run Services.

  1. Select the service named PeopleSync Service.

  1. Click on Start button.
